Identity Theft is a billion dollar business for thieves and a billion dollar loss for the rest of us. As a result, recent regulation enacted by the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act requires that we put in place additional measures to safeguard your account. LaPorte Community FCU has partnered with one of the most trusted names in identity theft protection to provide fully-managed identity recovery services, the most comprehensive solution available today.
As a member benefit, beginning November 30, 2009, professional identity theft recovery services will be added as a benefit to all qualifying savings accounts.* We also want to add additional value to your membership – therefore, we have arranged for these benefits to extend to three generations of your family** and to cover all types of identity theft that you may experience, covering both financial and non-financial fraud.
An associated security fee of $0.95 will be charged to your account. This is an identity theft mitigation benefit for all of our accountholders as a group; however, we recognize that you may be covered by your own identity theft plan. If you want to forfeit the benefit and forego the fee you may do so at any time by contacting us to remove you and your family from the group.
If you become a victim, you can spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars, plus countless hours of your own time and legwork trying to put your life back together. As an eligible savings accountholder, if you or a family member** suspects any type of identity theft – even if it isn’t related to your account with us, financial or non-financial – please contact us. We will provide a certified identity recovery advocate who will place fraud alerts at the three major credit bureaus for you; help you access services to watch for signs of identity theft; and access your credit reports and conduct a threat assessment to determine if any identity theft has occurred. If you are the victim of identity theft, your advocate will work on your behalf to restore your identity and make sure you stay recovered – no matter how long it takes.
We are delighted to be able to provide these important and valuable services to you and your family.

** Services extend to all named accountholders, their spouse or domestic partner, dependents up to age 25 with the same permanent residence address (including students and the military), and parents of the accountholder with the same permanent address, living at home or in elder care (hospice, assisted living, nursing home), with benefits extended up to 12 months after death.
What’s the first thing you want to do when you receive incredible news? You reach out to someone who’s important to you to share. What do you do when something terrible happens? Hopefully, you reach out to a loved one for support.
We rely on people around us for emotional support, be it for good or bad times. As much as this need for connection is ingrained in us, it also goes the other way.
As human beings, we have the innate need to contribute to those around us. Whether it comes in the form of something small like being there for a friend in need or something massive like contributing financially to a worthwhile cause, we realize the importance of giving.
The importance of giving to others can’t be understated and that’s because the secret to living is giving. If you really think about it, what is life all about? Creating meaning. How do you create meaning in your life? It’s not about what you do for yourself: It’s about how you’re able to better the lives of the people around you – your loved ones, the people in your community or the lives of people somewhere else in the world.
Throughout the year and each quarter we like to donate to a special cause to show our community that support and realize the importance of giving to others. During the 1st & 2nd quarter we donated to the La Porte County Animal Shelter and raised $400.00! During the month of August we will raise money and donate school supplies to our local community schools. During our Grand Opening we raised $220.00 for the Independent Cat Society and $225.00 to 4-H!
