NEW SAVINGS ACCOUNT BENEFIT – Identity Theft Recovery
Services
Identity Theft is a billion dollar business for thieves and
a billion dollar loss for the rest of us. As a result, recent
regulation enacted by the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions
Act requires that we put in place additional measures to safeguard
your account. LaPorte Community FCU has partnered with one
of the most trusted names in identity theft protection to provide
fully-managed identity recovery services, the most comprehensive
solution available today.
As a member benefit, beginning November 30, 2009, professional
identity theft recovery services will be added as a benefit
to all qualifying savings accounts.* We also want to add additional
value to your membership – therefore, we have arranged for
these benefits to extend to three generations of your family**
and to cover all types of identity theft that you may experience,
covering both financial and non-financial fraud.
An associated security fee of $0.95
will be charged to your account. This is an identity theft
mitigation benefit for all of our accountholders as a group;
however, we recognize that you may be covered by your own identity
theft plan. If you want to forfeit the benefit and forego
the fee you may do so at any time by contacting us to remove
you and your family from the group.
If you become a victim,
you can spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars, plus countless
hours of your own time and legwork trying to put your life
back together. As an eligible savings accountholder, if you
or a family member** suspects any type of identity theft –
even if it isn’t related to your account with us, financial
or non-financial – please contact us. We will provide a certified
identity recovery advocate who will place fraud alerts at the
three major credit bureaus for you; help you access services
to watch for signs of identity theft; and access your credit
reports and conduct a threat assessment to determine if any
identity theft has occurred. If you are the victim of identity
theft, your advocate will work on your behalf to restore your
identity and make sure you stay recovered – no matter how long
it takes.
We are delighted to be able to provide these important
and valuable services to you and your family.

*Members having $25 or less in their savings accounts will
not be eligible for this service. Members must be in good
standing with the credit union to qualify.
** Services extend to all named accountholders,
their spouse or domestic partner, dependents up to age 25 with
the same permanent residence address (including students and
the military), and parents of the accountholder with the same
permanent address, living at home or in elder care (hospice,
assisted living, nursing home), with benefits extended up to
12 months after death.

In hard economic times, many of the not-for-profit
organizations dedicated to helping others and providing much
needed services suffer. Your staff at LaPorte Community FCU
has decided to “step up and dress down” to meet the challenge.
You might have noticed employees wearing blue jeans on Fridays
and Saturdays. Each person donates $3 per day to wear them.
So far, donations have been made to The American Cancer Society,
The Salvation Army Food Pantries, The LaPorte County Women’s
Shelter and The Michigan City Homeless Shelter. It’s one more
example of the credit union motto, “People Helping People”.
