About Us
The LaPorte Community Federal Credit Union began in 1937 as the Allis Chalmers Credit Union, and consisted of workers from the Allis Chalmers Plant. The corporation was then located on Pine Lake Avenue in LaPorte.
As times, neighborhoods and employment opportunities changed, so did the location and membership of the credit union. The credit union was expanded to include the entire LaPorte County. Because of this growth and added services, the credit union is now located at 1304 Jefferson Avenue in LaPorte.
When you become a member of the credit union, you become an owner, not just a customer. A credit union is a proprietorship of its members, and is a non-profit organization with the sale purpose of serving the financial needs of its members. Other "financial institutions" return their profits to their stockholders. A credit union returns its profits ditectly back to you, the member. This system creates advantages such as more favorable loan and deposit rates as well as reduced service charges.
As a member, you also have the privilege of electing board members. This process takes place at the annual business/dinner meeting, and is usually in March each year.
